Exhibition

Mind Molecule

Ginza Mitsukoshi, Tokyo, Japan 2014

Mind Molecule was Bharoocha’s second official solo exhibition in Tokyo at Mitsukoshi Ginza curated by Snow Contemporary in 2014.

Mind

Definition: The element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought.  A person’s mental processes contrasted with physical action.

Molecule

Definition: Chemistry, Physics. the smallest physical unit of an element or compound, consisting of one or more like atoms in an element and two or more different atoms in a compound.

“Mind Molecule is an attempt to show how the molecules or many elements within ones mind- life experiences, cultural background, memory, desires, aversions, DNA- create distinct mental landscapes for every human on the planet. This exhibition is an attempt to present some of the “molecules” which inhabit my mind and cause me to create.”

“It is a way for me as an artist to try to make sense of my own interests and choices and to communicate my fascination of the the human mind.  I hope each viewer ponders their own existence, as well as how they have become the people that they are, why they make the choices that they do in life, and how each person’s viewpoint of life can sometimes seem disparate.”

“Through my visual work I try to create abstract narratives in which one can read into, and try to make sense of.  The beauty of art is that it is hard to make complete sense out of it but for the creator the relationship between elements seen in the work seem obvious. “

“This is what I find beautiful in art; that each person will read it in a different way. During the process of trying to understand a piece of work, each viewer creates a new distinct experience which they cannot fully share with another human.  I feel this is an incredibly beautiful element of our lives and I am happy to be a part of creating a new and distinct experience for everyone who experiences this exhibition”.

“Each mind has a unique composition and every person has different reactions to the same experience.  We do not know what triggers a mental image or a nostalgic feeling for another person.  For example, when I smell a specific tomato sauce it reminds me of the Aikido dojo I went to as a child which was located above a pizza shop in San Diego, California.  This smell would not remind many others of martial arts.  This exhibition is an attempt to show my own mental chemistry if you will, by showing vignettes of how I create connections between certain experiences I have had in life, and then to recreate a set of visual representations of how my mind relates to these elements”.
